Some people might argue that pinterest can get you much more traffic in most cases. However remember that pinterest is not only a social media, it is also a search engine.
I have also tested this out personally. A few months ago I started a twitter account to do affiliate marketing in the weight loss niche. Surprisingly, I got 2 clicks to my affiliate link when I had just about 20 followers. Keep in mind that I only had a link in bio and had not promoted any links in the posts directly.
That is great. In fact in instagram, I needed 3 times more followers to achieve that.
So with that, let's talk about a few tips which you can use to grow followers on twitter.
1. Using hashtags.
Hashtags are a really important part of growing in social media in all of the social medias. They help you to reach new people. We use hashtags in twitter, facebook, instagram, tumblr etc. In twitter, I only recommend you to add 3-4 hastags in a post. If you add more than that, you may get a little more reach, but your post will look really spammy. So always use hashtags.
Also test different hashtags on posts. Don't use the same hashtags for all your posts even if they are in the same topic. I suggest that you test different hashtags for some time and find out the hashtags that work best for you. You can now use these hashtags for all your posts.
2. Posting consistently(several times a day)
If you post consistently, you can just grow a lot more than posting once in 2 days.
Your tweets reach new people. Let's take an example that each of your tweets reaches ten new people. If you do just 1 post a day, that's ten new people reached in a day.
However, if you do five posts a day, that's 50 new people reached every day. I hope you get the idea.
3. posting at different times
If you are posting 3 times a day, and you are posting all these posts in either night, morning or evening, then you will only reach people who are online at that specific time. However, if you are posting at different times in a day, then you will also be reaching new people that are online at that specific time.
You can also use post schedulers if you want to save some time and don't won't to come back again and again to twitter.
4. Tell people to retweet
People need to be told to what to do. If someone retweets your post, you reach a lot of new people. But people don't retweet everything. Give them a reason to retweet your post. If you are in the weight loss niche, then at the bottom of your post write something like this:
Retweet if you want to help others to lose weight.
If you are in the make money online niche, write something like this:
Retweet if you want to help others make money.
This will help you to get a few extra retweets, which will help you to get more reach.
5. Follow For follow.
Let's face it, growing organically when you have a completely new account is very hard on twitter.
So, at that starting, you will have to use the follow for follow method unless you are elon musk starting a new account.
Follow for follow does not work as great as instagram in twitter. You will need to do much more follows to get those follows.
A good thing is that if twitter action bans you, you will just have to verify that you are a human and you will be let back into twitter.
6. Unfollow people
When you follow people a lot at the start of your account, it will look spammy that you have 100 followers and are following 2000 people.
You also need to unfollow people after some time who don't follow you back.
You can do this manually or with some tools.
7. Use visuals
Statistics show that 97% of people in twitter only focus on posts that have visuals.
So, whatever you are posting about, try to create a visual for it.
You can easily do that in a service like canva, it is free. It has a paid version though. But you will be good to go with the free version as well.
It can also be videos.
8. Reply to comments that you get.
In any social media like twitter, facebook, instagram it is important to reply and engage with comments that you get. This will help you to nurture a community and they may also comment on other posts which will help you to get more reach.
They may also become fans of your work. So, it is important to nurture a
community.
9. Clean looking profile
Just think about this, if you visit a profile and it does not have a good bio, name or logo, will you follow it? If it has a very long and ugly affiliate link in your bio, will you follow it?
If you are adding affiliate links in your bio, make sure to shorten the link with a link shortener. I use bitly.
If you din't have a good looking name and logo, would they even click on your profile?
Make sure your name is related to what you post about. I would say that don't add any symbols in your name if possible.
Your logo should also be related to what you post about. You can create one in canva.
10. Use other platforms
If you have a blog, then use it to drive traffic to your twitter account. If you have a facebook account, or any other social media account, use it to drive traffic to your twitter account.
